Introducing British Cheese
London’s cult cheese restaurant, The Cheese Bar was founded in 2014 to celebrate and promote all that is great about British Cheese.
From humble beginnings at Maltby Street Market, to becoming a regular fixture on the UK festival circuit, they made a name for themselves as The Cheese Truck, serving some of Britain’s best grilled cheese sandwiches from the iconic classic Bedford vans: Archie, Alfie & Audrey.
They conquered the fields of Glastonbury, starred in Hollywood Movies and travelled as far as Istanbul and Dubai, selling half a million sandwiches & amassing a passionate following on their mission to champion British cheese.
In 2016, The Cheese Bar decided it was time to make the jump to bricks and mortar. They reached their crowdfunding target in less than a week and opened their flagship Camden restaurant the following year.
Since then, they’ve opened another two restaurants. Pick & Cheese – the world’s first cheese conveyor belt – in an attempt to shake up the traditional cheese and wine bar format and encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and try something new!
And, more recently, The Cheese Barge in Paddington. A 96ft floating restaurant dedicated to showcasing the best of British cheese through a range of seasonal small plates and sharing dishes.
On top of all of this (and during a global pandemic!), they ventured into the retail space with their first cheese & bottle shop, Funk, on east London’s Columbia Road, as well as a growing mail order business (think self-isolation cheese & wine survival packs, and virtual tastings galore!).
And all for the love of BRITISH CHEESE!
They’ve got no time for mass produced cheese, made for money over love – and, through their distinctive dining experiences, they want to show their customers the joys of the produce made right on their doorstep!
You can find cheese from The Cheese Bar on our menu at The Pilgrm. Pair with cured meats from our friends at Tempus and a chilled glass of wine.
