The Maker Session, Tuesday 22nd January from 630pm

The Maker Session, Tuesday 22nd January from 630pm

We're proud to present "The Maker Session"
Tuesday 22nd January, from 630pm

With arts and crafts’ role in reimagining old and new neighbourhoods, along with the role of ‘place’ becoming increasingly more prevalent, we ask why?

From King’s Cross to Hackney and Williamsburg to Detroit, we’re seeing new developments stick closely to their heritage, with intentions to reinvent old narrative for the modern world. With these iconic neighbourhoods springing back to life, each rooted in history and combining craft with both architecture and design - we ask how, and just where this trend is headed.

Panellists:

Tamsin Green, Project Leader at Heatherwick Studio
In her role as Project Leader, Tamsin managed the delivery of Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross, London. The project, which opened in October 2018, makes use of two disused Victorian coal drops buildings, reinvented as a new retail quarter and public space. While at Heatherwick Studio Tamsin has also contributed to two major projects in Shanghai; 1000 Trees, a mixed-use development located next to the M50 arts district, and the 400,000sqm Bund Finance Centre.

Tim Hubbard, Founder at 93ft
Tim is head of 93ft, an independent design studio based in Sheffield, UK. Quartered into Interior Architecture, Brand, Strategy and Content Creation, Digital Strategy with bespoke web development and furniture design and manufacture. 93 work UK and Europe wide often taking care of all services under one roof - managing the vision, direction and strategic thinking as a whole project from start to finish. The agency represents independent brands to those with international acclaim across lifestyle, retail, workspace and hospitality. '93 Makes' is also the brainchild of Tim - a dedicated workshop that both designs and makes all of the custom furniture which appears on 93ft's interior projects.

Paul Smyth, Something & Son and Co-founder of Makerversity
Paul is a Cofounder of Something & Son and Makerversity. Something & Son are an artist collective working across art, architecture and public space. Makerversity is a workspace for 300 disruptive makers and designers in Somerset House. Since starting Something & Son ten years ago the practice have delivered a large number of impactful social and environmental projects and experiments. Through all of their work Something & Son try to build lasting legacies which will create a more sustainable, equitable and just world.
